On 2 January 2016, Marcel Barbeau died at Verdun Manor.

He is survived by his wife, Ninon Gauthier, daughter, Manon and her step-son PhilipPe, his son François, his grandchildren, Anaïs and Manuel, their respective spouses, Emile and Odile, his great-grandchildren, Manoé, Ulysses, Edmond and Mishka, his sister Janine and his many relatives and friends.

On 23 January, family, friends, colleagues and acquaintances of Marcel Barbeau went to Alfred Dallaire Memoria Salon to pay their last respects and say goodbye. A touching ceremony, hosted by the grand-son of the deceased, Manuel Barbeau-Lavalette, highlighted the many facets of the man who participated in the great upheavals of modern Quebec and who has devoted over 70 years to artistic creation.
