A great paper on Marcel Barbeau in « Border Crossings » last issue
20/06/2010 to 31/08/2010

Cover page, Issue 114.Volume 29, No 2 2010.
The last season has been very eventful for Marcel Barbeau. The events he took part in brought out the originality and the historical importance of his work as well as his still stimulating actuality.
After his participation in the Toronto and Buffalo exhibition “The Automatist Revolution Montreal 1942-1960” and the exhibition of his recent work at the Winsor Gallery in Vancouver, the English-Canadian magazine “Border Crossing” published a background article about his work, under the signature of the brilliant Canadian historian Robert Enright. “Marcel Barbeau The Colour of Change” proposes an original and enlightening approach to his work, which relates Barbeau’s constant evolution to his automatist origins. For Enright, his process can then be seen as an act of loyalty towards the engagement of his youth, rather than as a sign of looseness and inconsistency. It is by far the deepest and most complete article about Marcel Barbeau and his work ever published in English. The original selection of the illustrations allows one to discover many of his less known paintings. It is supported by a beautiful and effective layout. In the front row, next to Dzama, Duchamp and John Cage, among the great creators of our time, Barbeau finds the company that suits him.
