Speech by Prime Minister Philippe Couillard at the ceremony of the National Order of Québec, June 16, 2015.

The June 16, 2015 took place the delivery of the National Order of Québec in the Legislative Council Chamber of the Parliament Building in Quebec City. The multidisciplinary artist Marcel Barbeau was one of 35 people promoted by the Prime Minister, Philippe Couillard during this honorary ceremony. Dedicated Officer of the National Order of Quebec for of his career in visual arts and his contribution to the history of art and culture of Quebec, Mr. Barbeau, receives this title on the year of its 90th anniversary . Because of the current impossibility of Mr. Barbeau to move from Montreal to Quebec due to health problems, his wife, Ninon Gauthier was his representative.

At 14h, deputies, ministers, members of the Conseil de l’Ordre and the guests took place in the Legislative Council Chamber. Richard Clement, President of the Conseil de l’Ordre, opened the ceremony with a speech recalling the history of the Order of Quebec and the object and purpose of this honor awarded to citizens who have contributed to the advancement and the promotion of Quebec. The Prime Minister Philippe Couillard then took the floor and expressed his pride to give most prestigious distinction awarded by the Quebec government to the nominees and points out the excellence and merit of each of them before handing them their insignes. Mr. Barbeau and Ninon Gauthier were especially pleased to discover that, this year, an important part of the promoted are part of the cultural field. The ceremony was followed by a friendly reception.

Upon his return to Montreal, Ninon Gauthier presents the insignia of the Ordre national du Québec to her husband, Marcel Barbeau.
