The exhibition “L’art en guerre France 1938 -1947 – De Picasso à Dubuffet” which is now on at Musée d’art moderne de la Ville de Paris and which gathers works produced or exhibited in France at this dramatic time, covered by this exhibition, devotes a short section to the Quebec Automatist exhibition at Galerie du Luxembourg, in June 1947. It shows works by Borduas, Riopelle, Leduc and Barbeau, who have all lived and painted in France, later. It show how at that time the Quebec artists were then at the international avant-garde. Marcel Barbeau’s watercolor “Nadja 2” (1946) is thus included in this pertigious exhibition.
