Barbeau at the new MNBAQ Pierre Lassonde Pavilion
On June 24, 2016, the new Pavillon Pierre Lassonde of the National Museum of Fine Arts of Quebec opened its doors with the exhibition De Ferron at BGL: Contemporary Art of Quebec.
Among the works presented, visitors can discover the Marcel Barbeau Kitchenombi no.4 a performative painting, part of the permanent collection of the museum. This large work painted during a performance at the Grand Théâtre de Caen in France (1972) imposes itself by its dimensions (260 x 390 cm) and its gestual expression. It is to the rhythm of the concrete music created instantaneously by Vincent Dionne listening to poems that are recited to him, that Barbeau paints this painting like a painter-dancer. At the fringes of several disciplines (paintings, dance, music and poetry), this monumental work testifies to Barbeau’s sustained interest in transdisciplinarity.
