“This summer, visitors to the Nickle Galleries will learn about the evolution of abstract art in Canada as they take in the exhibition Abstraction in Canada, the 1950s and 60s, which opens June 2. The show features works from the Nickle’s own collection and runs concurrently with the architectural exhibition Ron Thom and the Allied Arts.” Three paintings of Marcel Barbeau are presented in this new exhibition : Lumière Noire; Paris, 1972, Aztec Consecration, 1988 and Repos, 1984.

“The exhibition provides a snapshot of the history of abstract painting as well as some of the finest pieces in the Nickle’s collection including works by artists Marion Nicoll, Maxwell Bates, Harry Kiyooka, Roy Kiyooka, Ronald Bloore, Ted Godwin, Ken Lochhead, Marcel Barbeau, Claude Tousignant, Guido Molinari, Jack Bush and others.”

“Abstraction in Canada, the 1950s and 60s runs in the Nickle Galleries, Taylor Family Digital Library, from June 2 to July 31. The opening reception is June 2 from 5 to 8 p.m. It is a free event and open to the public.”
